I hope everyone’s havin a groovy summer! We sure are, and we’re so busy in the city with shows and events, so I hope you follow us on Twitter, where we do most of our concert announcements and updates. It’s electroph baby!
I also hope you got to check out Chuck Brown at Battery Park. That man and his big band are awesome. He had is family up there with him, and probably the best part - next to the non-stop swingin melodies backed by breakbeat funk - was his grandson, freestyling! The kid must be 9 years old and a frikin natural. He seemed unsure of when or what to start with when given the mic, but I think it was a hustle because he went full force. Everyone was dancing, some more than others. Picture it: average to small-sized middle-aged man, bushy frizzed out gray ponytail tamed back by a long flowing pink bandana, black t-shirt and tight black jeans like a roadie for Squeeze, tie-die socks and black sandals, displaying the most fancy footwork I’ve seen since… ever. Dancing wide circles, swinging his hips, twisting them and his ankles while hopping on the beat, with the most serious, unmoving stare. SO excellent.
I thought Mr. Brown mistakenly addressed us like we were in DC, but apparently some of his DC fans came up to see him. They are dedicated. And he loved them, but not without mentioning NYC is “open 24-7″, making me feel like I was in a Wawa commercial filmed by Spike Jonze/Adam Spiegel.
Rock n roll -jaye
